Fabrizio Romano reveals PSG’s major transfer plans, Liverpool’s Bradley Barcola pursuit, Tottenham’s Cody Gakpo and Savinho interest, plus the latest on Ferran Torres, Zion Suzuki and Ferland Mendy.
PSG step up transfer plans after major summer sales
Paris Saint-Germain are accelerating their transfer business after raising significant funds through player departures.
“Paris Saint-Germain have been quite quiet after winning back-to-back Champions League titles. They did an incredible job. Nasser Al-Khelaifi, Luis Campos and Luis Enrique have all worked together brilliantly. What they have been building recently has been perfect,” Romano said.
“They started preparing for the future after winning the Champions League final against Arsenal. They focused first on outgoings before now attacking the market.
“Don’t forget the departures because they have generated big money. Randal Kolo Muani has joined Juventus for €38 million plus €12m in easily achievable add-ons. Gonzalo Ramos has joined AC Milan for €75m guaranteed plus €10m in add-ons. Kang-in Lee has gone to Atletico Madrid as well.
“The next player expected to leave is Ibrahim Mbaye, who is also seen as an exit for this summer.”
PSG close in on Maghnes Akliouche and Mika Godts
Romano has confirmed the French champions are closing in on two attacking additions.
“Maghnes Akliouche from Monaco is going to be announced this week. The medical did not take place on Friday, Saturday or today because the player is in Spain with his family. He will return to Paris this week, complete his medical and sign in a €50m deal,” Romano confirmed.
“Mika Godts to Paris Saint-Germain is getting closer and closer. PSG are making progress in negotiations with Ajax.
“Paris Saint-Germain sent an official bid to Ajax today worth €40m plus €5m in add-ons. Ajax started with an asking price of €60m, so the gap is no longer that big.
“The expectation is to reach an agreement in the coming days. Mika Godts has already said yes to Paris Saint-Germain because he is attracted by the club and the project. The contract is ready, so he could be the next arrival after Akliouche.”
Ferran Torres remains a serious PSG target
And PSG continue to work on a deal for Ferran Torres, despite Barcelona’s insistence that the player is going nowhere.
“PSG have been in contact with Ferran Torres’ agents since the World Cup. His representatives have spoken with several Spanish clubs, English clubs and Paris Saint-Germain because Ferran has one year left on his Barcelona contract,” Romano stated.
“Now Paris Saint-Germain are in concrete negotiations over contract details with his agents.
“Barcelona do not want to sell Ferran Torres. Their position is very clear. However, if Ferran decides he wants to leave and communicates that to Barcelona, then the club could open the door for Paris Saint-Germain.
“So PSG and Ferran Torres is definitely one to follow over the next few days.”
PSG make official offer for Zion Suzuki
The two-time Champions League winners are also making progress with regards a new goalkeeper.
“Juventus had a bid rejected for Suzuki. They also explored Emiliano Martinez but considered him too expensive, while Guglielmo Vicario is now a concrete option for Juventus from Tottenham,” Romano said.
“Paris Saint-Germain have sent an official proposal to Parma over the weekend worth €33m including add-ons for Zion Suzuki.
“The discussions are ongoing. Suzuki is becoming more open to joining Paris Saint-Germain.
“The issue is not that he would reject PSG. He simply wants guarantees that he will have the chance to play, or at least compete for a place. PSG already have Safonov, Chevalier and Longoni, so Suzuki wants to understand the club’s plan for him.
“He is attracted by the project and has become increasingly open to the move in recent hours.”
Liverpool continue Bradley Barcola talks as Tottenham monitor Cody Gakpo
In terms of outgoing players, PSG could yet see Bradley Barcola join Liverpool in a huge deal, with fresh talks planned between the clubs.
“New contacts are planned next week between Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain for Bradley Barcola,” Romano confirmed.
“Now it is time for the clubs to make it happen because the player wants to join Liverpool and is more than open to the project.
“I don’t think this will happen immediately. I don’t expect a breakthrough on Monday or Tuesday because there is still work to do between Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain.
“This could become one of the biggest sagas of the summer. It depends on how much Liverpool are prepared to spend because PSG are open to negotiations, but only under their own financial conditions.
“Barcola remains Liverpool’s top target.
“On Liverpool, Cody Gakpo is still a target for Tottenham. Tottenham have held talks with the agency representing Gakpo and believe he would be the right addition for Roberto De Zerbi.
“Everything depends on the price. Liverpool are very happy with Cody Gakpo and are not trying to sell him.
“Throughout the Club World Cup and during July, Liverpool insisted they wanted to keep him.
“The only way Liverpool would open the door is if Tottenham submit a very strong financial proposal. If that happens and the player wants the move, then the situation could change.
“So this deal is being discussed, but it is far from guaranteed because Liverpool still consider Gakpo an important player.”
Savinho pushing for Tottenham move
Tottenham remain in talks with Manchester City, while Romano also addressed speculation surrounding Ferland Mendy.
“Savinho wants to join Tottenham. He is a top target for Spurs and is pushing for the move,” Romano said.
“He has told Manchester City that he wants to leave, and Tottenham remain in conversations with City over the deal.
“Tottenham would like to sign Savinho and potentially another attacking player.”
Mendy rumours dismissed
Finally, Romano rejected claims that Ferland Mendy is ready to tear up his Real Madrid deal.
“There have also been many questions about Ferland Mendy and reports from Spain suggesting he could terminate his Real Madrid contract,” he said.
“My information is that people close to Ferland Mendy deny there is any imminent contract termination.
“If that changes later, I will let you know, but at the moment he is not negotiating a contract termination with Real Madrid.
“Obviously he is injured, so we have to wait and see, but it is certainly a situation worth following.”
