Former Super Eagles defender Azubuike Egwuekwe has expressed confidence that Warri Wolves will produce positive results when the 2026/2027 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season gets underway, Completesports.com reports.
Egwuekwe Confident Warri Wolves Can Bounce Back
Egwuekwe, who is the Coordinator of the Seasiders, said the signs are encouraging that the new season will be a bright one for the club.
The 37-year-old spoke on Saturday morning from his base in Warri, stressing that assembling a new set of players with discipline, character, determination and commitment is key to achieving the club’s objectives.

“I was appointed as Coordinator of Warri Wolves by the Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Hon. Onoriode Joshua Oborevwori, when the 2025/2026 season had already started.
“Now we’re starting all over again, and I strongly believe we’re going to do much better this time around,” Egwuekwe said confidently.
Egwuekwe Highlights Recruitment And Pre-Season Plans
The towering former centre-back reflected on his role in helping the club achieve its targets for the coming campaign.
“First, let me commend the wisdom and vision of the Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, who thought it wise to bring some former Warri Wolves players into the club as officials.
“For me, I think that, together with our Head Coach, Hassan Abd’Allah, we will rebuild Warri Wolves by bringing in young, talented, dedicated and committed players to drive our dream.
“We’ve already started that process, and the next step is the pre-season camp, which will commence very soon.
“I want to bring my experience, having played in the NPFL and abroad, to complement the coaching crew’s programme and philosophy in moving the club forward.”

Austin Johnny (Assistant Coach) and Abayomi Olorunda (Goalkeeper Coach) are among other former Warri Wolves players occupying various positions within the club.
Former Super Eagles Defender Boasts Distinguished Career
Egwuekwe won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with the Super Eagles in South Africa. In 2014, he returned to South Africa to win the bronze medal at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) before travelling to Brazil later that year with the Super Eagles for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
His playing career took him to Nasarawa United, Yerima Strikers, Warri Wolves, KuPS (Finland), SuperSport United, Al-Nasr Benghazi (Libya) and Rivers United.
Egwuekwe earned 36 caps for the Super Eagles and scored two goals.
Warri Wolves finished the 2025/2026 NPFL season in 13th place with 49 points.
