Shocking moment Team England cyclist Matt Richardson is brutally wiped out by rival – with crash ending star's Commonwealth Games dream

Team England Matt Richardson was sensationally knocked out of contention while racing in Japan – ending his dream of competing for his country at this month’s Commonwealth Games.

The cyclist had switched his nationality from Australian to English two years ago and hoped to compete in Glasgow at the ongoing games.

But Richardson received a brutal injury while taking part in the Keirin World Series, with footage emerging of the Kent-born rider being caught up in a collision with opponent Kento Suzuki.

Suzuki appeared to be speeding up heading towards the racing line, but a mistake saw him fall into Richardson to prematurely call time on both of their races.

Richardson later left the outdoor velodrome in an ambulance.
