Sky Bet's Sussex Stakes favourites as day two of Glorious Goodwood gets underway

Day two of the 2026 Glorious Goodwood Festival gets underway with a stacked eight-race card that is sure to whet the appetite of both avid and casual horse racing fans alike.

The feature race of the day is the Group 1 Sussex Stakes (16:10), a prestigious one-mile contest featuring some of the sport’s leading milers.

For those keeping a close eye on the action, here’s a look at the favourites according to Sky Bet.

Heading the betting is Bow Echo, with the George Boughey-trained colt installed as the market leader. For punters confident he can land the feature, Sky Bet has enhanced his odds from 1/1 to 6/4 to finish first past the post.

It’s easy to see why Bow Echo is Sky Bet’s best-backed runner. The three-year-old boasts a flawless record, having won all five of his career starts to date.

He has been particularly impressive this season, landing two prestigious Group 1 victories. First came success in the 2000 Guineas Stakes at Newmarket in May, before he followed up with another top-level triumph in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot in June.

Now, Bow Echo bids to extend his winning streak and secure a third consecutive Group 1 victory. Or will one of his rivals spring a surprise?

For those expecting an upset, Gstaad and Opera Ballo are next in the betting at 11/4 and 7/2 respectively.

Gstaad also boasts an impressive record, with Aidan O’Brien’s colt finishing either first or second in each of his nine career starts.

He crossed paths with Bow Echo in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot last time out, going down by just a short head in a thrilling finish.

That performance showed he has the quality to turn the tables and could make life difficult for the favourite in the Sussex Stakes.

Meanwhile, Opera Ballo has won seven of his 10 career starts and arrives with an equally strong résumé.

The four-year-old has consistently performed at a high level and will be looking to capitalise if the two market leaders fail to produce their very best, making him another serious contender for Group 1 honours.
