Nigeria’s quest for a record-extending 11th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title has received a significant morale boost after the National Sports Commission (NSC) announced fresh financial incentives for the Super Falcons.
Ahead of the team’s opening Group C match at the 2026 WAFCON in Morocco, NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko revealed that the Federal Government will reward the players with $5,000 for every goal scored during the group stage of the competition.
The incentive is aimed at motivating the defending champions as they seek to retain their continental crown and secure qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
In another show of support, Shehu Dikko, alongside Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi, on Tuesday presented the promised house ownership documents to members of the Super Falcons in Rabat, Morocco.
The presentation fulfilled part of the Federal Government’s reward package for the team’s triumph at the previous WAFCON.
This reinforces the government’s commitment to rewarding excellence in Nigerian sports.
The additional goal bonus is expected to further inspire Justine Madugu’s side as they begin their title defence, with every group-stage goal now carrying both sporting and financial significance.
