Spain midfielder Dani Olmo has publicly rejected Roberto Ayala’s apology after their altercation following the 2026 World Cup final, calling the Argentina assistant coach a liar.
Recall that a post-match physical clash occurred after Spain beat Argentina 1-0 in extra time in the World Cup final on July 19, 2026.

However, Ayala claimed it was merely a shove rather than a punch, stating he entered the pitch only to separate players and reacted to a remark made by Olmo.
Reacting to the development, Olmo declared that Ayala is lying about the nature of the contact and the verbal trigger, concluding that no apology is accepted or deserved.
“Someone who claims to be sorry but justifies a punch by saying it was a response to something being said probably isn’t sorry at all.

“He’s lying. I didn’t say anything to him, so I don’t need his apology. What truly defines us isn’t a mistake, but the courage to acknowledge it.
