UN Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Francesca Albanese, said Israel could not ensure law and order in the territory it “unlawfully occupies” and called on states to intervene.
In a post on X, Albanese said UN Secretary-General AntΓ³nio Guterres should invoke Article 99 of the UN Charter to flag a threat to peace.
She said the UN Security Council should impose sanctions and deploy a peacekeeping force, adding that if this was blocked by a veto, the UN General Assembly should pass a “Uniting for Peace” resolution.
Albanese also called for states to halt all trade and arms transfers to “Apartheid”.
