Arsenal are exploring a sensational deal for Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Jr.
The Brazilian is facing an uncertain future in the Spanish capital, despite insistence from both the player and the club that they want to continue beyond 2027, when his current contract is due to expire.
However, the fact of the matter is that so far, there has been no breakthrough in discussions between the two parties, despite talks having started more than a year ago. Losing a player of Vinicius Jr’s quality and stature for free would be hugely damaging for Real Madrid.
As a result, reports in Spain have been indicating for a few months now that, if push comes to shove and no agreement is reached this summer, Real Madrid could make the 26-year-old available for transfer.
And this potential availability has attracted the attention of admirers. Saudi clubs have been repeatedly trying to sign the Brazil star for several years, with Al-Hilal and Al-Ahli among his most persistent suitors. There is, however, also Premier League interest.
Arsenal eye Vinicius Jr coup
There have been recent links with a sensational switch to Liverpool, but according to David Ornstein of The Athletic, it is Arsenal who are serious about potentially adding the winger to their already stacked squad.
The journalist understands that the reigning English champions have begun exploring a possible move for Vinicius, though there have been no talks with Real Madrid at this stage. It is too early to suggest that he could soon be playing in North London.
However, the interest from the Gunners is genuine. In fact, the idea of pursuing Vinicius has been “approved” at “all levels” of the club. Of course, a move could only materialise if Real Madrid fail to agree an extension with him.
Ornstein adds that Vinicius would be due a “significant” loyalty bonus next season, which would make losing him for nothing after the campaign even more disastrous for Real Madrid.
The news of Arsenal’s interest in Vinicius comes at a very interesting time as Los Blancos are currently locked in talks with RB Leipzig over a potential deal for Yan Diomande.
Discussions are believed to be progressing quickly, with Ben Jacobs reporting that Real Madrid are growing confident of striking a deal. Leipzig insist that they will not sell the Ivorian for less than €120 million.
Diomande prefers playing on the right, but he is capable of featuring on the left. Alternatively, the signing of the teenage winger and the departure of Vinicius could mean that Kylian Mbappe moves into his favoured left-wing position, with Diomande playing on the right.
This would give Real Madrid the opportunity to pursue an elite No.9, and it is no secret that Florentino Perez’s dream target is Man City megastar Erling Haaland. There are a lot of moving parts at this stage, but these are very interesting times for Real Madrid – and European football at large.
