Spanish duo Fabián Ruiz and Gavi have received their body weight in local tomatoes from their hometown of Los Palacios y Villafranca after winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup 2026.
The two World Cup winners returned to the town, located south of Seville, on Wednesday for a civic reception at the town hall, where they were welcomed by local officials and hundreds of supporters while wearing their winners’ medals.

According to BBC Sport, Ruiz received 84 kg (185 lbs) and Gavi received 68 kg (150 lbs) of the town’s famous local tomatoes.
The town honours local players who win major international titles by weighing them and gifting the matching weight in locally grown tomatoes, a practice that started with Jesús Navas in 2010.
The council has also announced lasting tributes to its football stars. While the local sports pavilion already bears the names of Navas and Ruiz, football fields will now be renamed in honour of Gavi and Ruiz.
Local authorities further revealed plans to erect a monument celebrating the three World Cup champions from Los Palacios y Villafranca, describing them as role models whose achievements have brought pride and international recognition to the community.

The council said the honours were intended to celebrate not only their success on the global stage but also to inspire future generations of young footballers from the town.
“In this way, the city council wants to pay permanent tribute to three athletes who represent the pride of an entire town and who, with their sporting and human trajectory, have become role models for several generations of children and young people.
