Mamdani calls Netanyahu a 'war criminal', urges US enforce ICC arrest warrant

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has described Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a “war criminal”, urging the US government to enforce the International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant against him if he enters the country.

“Benjamin Netanyahu is a war criminal, the architect of a horrific genocide against the Palestinian people,” Mamdani said in a video message posted on X.

He accused Netanyahu of the killing of over 73,000 people in the besieged enclave amongst other crimes, such as the targeting of hospitals, denying medical care for Palestinians and the blocking of food and humanitarian aid.

He said that the targeting of Palestinians continues months after a ceasefire came into effect, adding: “All as we, as Americans pay for the bombs that do the killing”.

“There is a reason the International Criminal Court issued a warrant for his arrest,” he said. “Anyone with their eyes, with their heart, with their conscience, should recognise the devastation he has wrought and understand that he belongs before a court of law.”
