Newcastle are growing frustrated with Arsenal’s pursuit of Bruno Guimaraes and have reportedly reached out to the Gunners to resolve the future of their captain once and for all.
Arsenal have been in talks with Guimaraes’ representatives over a transfer but a formal approach has not been made to Newcastle despite verbal offers of around €60 million immediately being shut down by the Magpies.
Newcastle are adamant that Guimaraes is not for sale but their positioned has been complicated by the 28-year-old’s desire to explore a move to Arsenal, although he has not formally asked to leave the club or indicated he will force a transfer.
According to Sky Sports, Newcastle will not take Arsenal’s interest ‘seriously’ until a formal offer arrives rather than through intermediaries and it would take an offer in excess of €90m to grab their attention.
“As I understand it, Newcastle have actually reached out to Arsenal and said, ‘Look, are you serious about this? Are you trying to sign this player because we’ve had nothing from you?” Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie said.
“Newcastle are desperate not to sell him. They’ve said he’s not for sale. But once a player agitates to go, it’s really difficult to hold on to him. But Arsenal need to come to the table and offer, and only then will Newcastle take their interest seriously, once they make a concrete offer, not via any middle-men.”

Guimaraes has been a standout performer for Newcastle since joining the club in 2022 and he has repeatedly expressed his loyalty to the Magpies, with his family happy and settled on Tyneside.
However, with Newcastle missing out on European football last season, Guimaraes is aware that this summer could be his last opportunity to join a club where he could challenge for silverware, particularly after an impressive 2026 World Cup with Brazil.
Guimaraes’ current contract expires in 2028, although Newcastle are believed to have an option to extend it for a further year and, as such, Eddie Howe’s side have no desire to cash in on their star man, especially after a number of key departures already this summer.
But the club are aware that their hand could be forced if their captain asks to leave, although Guimaraes is not believed to be considering going on strike in a similar fashion to Alexander Isak last summer.
Newcastle would prefer to resolve Guimaraes’ future quickly one way or another and avoid the situation hanging over their head going into the new season, hence their desire for Arsenal to either formalise their interest or move on.
There is also a firm stance that Guimaraes will not be sold on the cheap if a transfer is to happen, with Arsenal’s current valuation of the Brazilian understood to be falling far short of Newcastle’s expectations.
