Former Super Eagles’ goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi has added his view to comments trailing the return of Nigeria’s out-of-favour first choice, Stanley Nwabali to Chippa United of South Africa, with a verdict that it offers his compatriot an opportunity to remind people about ‘what he can do.’

Sports247 reports that Akpeyi, who also featured prominently for Chippa United at the height of his career, after excelling for Nigeria in winning the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in the Rainbow Nation, pointed out that Nwabali is back to familiar terrain.
Akpeyi, who served as a television analyst during this year’s FIFA World Cup, added that Nwabali now has an opportunity to reclaim his place as Super Eagles’ number one netminder once he starts playing regularly with Chippa United in the South African Premier League.
Although many critics believe Nwabali will struggle to regain form after spending nearly five months without a club, Akpeyi believes the returnee shot-topper will quickly settle down and prove his mettle ahead of Nigeria’s first game in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Akpeyi told FARPost, “I know he will manage to get back his form and earn the trust of the coaches, then he will rise again quickly. I will not be surprised if he is Nigeria’s number one in the next few games.
“When you are not attached to any team, it is obvious you will not get invited to the national team. So, this could be one of the reasons why he decided to come back home to Chippa United, where he started. At least there, he will get the platform to play and remind people what he can do.”
