NNL: Bayelsa United Return To Training, Eye Immediate NPFL Promotion

Bayelsa United have commenced preparations for the 2026/27 Nigeria National League (NNL) season after holding their first training session at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.

The opening session, which signalled the start of the club’s pre-season programme, was overseen by the technical crew led by assistant coach Ngozi Elechi, with Anderson West also taking part in supervising the drills.

The players were put through light fitness exercises and tactical sessions as the coaching staff assessed their physical condition ahead of a more demanding pre-season schedule.

More players are expected to join the squad in the coming days as preparations intensify for the Bayelsa United/Prosperity Cup Pre-season Tournament in Yenagoa.

The club is targeting an immediate return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), in line with the vision of Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri.

Before training got underway, board member Godson Ekarde urged the players to approach the new campaign with discipline, commitment and a winning mentality, describing the season as a crucial one for the club.

Ekarde reaffirmed the management’s commitment to providing the team with the necessary support to compete strongly in the NNL and secure promotion back to the NPFL.

He also challenged both the players and the coaching staff to repay the faith shown in them by producing improved performances and delivering consistent results throughout the season.
