An official Lebanese source told Saudi broadcaster Al-Hadath that the United States supports full cooperation between Lebanon and Syria at all levels and that Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio reached an agreement regarding a complete Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon.
Separately, the US State Department said Rubio met with President Aoun in Washington, where the two discussed the implementation of the tripartite framework.
According to the State Department, Rubio reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting the successful implementation of the framework and to backing the Lebanese government’s efforts to achieve peace and economic recovery.
The State Department also said Rubio praised the Lebanese government’s efforts to restore state sovereignty, disarm Hezbollah, and dismantle the group’s military infrastructure.
Neither the Lebanese presidency nor the US State Department publicly confirmed the Lebanese source’s claim that Aoun and Rubio had reached an agreement on a complete Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon.
