A teenage girl was allegedly gang-raped after being lured into a truck by her uncle and only escaped after jumping from a moving truck. The 15-year-old girl reportedly escaped from the truck on the Kanpur-Sagar highway in Sajeti, northern India.
She was able to make her way home where she told her family what had happened. Her father contacted Sajeti police and two men were arrested.
As reported by the Deccan Chronicle, police said the accused duo appeared in court on Friday, July 17, after being charged under the relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the official criminal code of India.
Krishnakant Yadav, assistant police commissioner, said that during interrogation the pair admitted that they had been drinking alcohol at the time of the alleged offence.
Sajeti is a large village and mostly rural community and is near Ghatampur, a town of about 80,000 people.
The news comes after a woman was allegedly gang-raped in the district of Madurai in southern India.
As reported by the Express, five men were arrested on suspicion of rape after a horrific alleged rape.
The 33-year-old victim was reportedly lured to a secluded location under the promise of a job. She was then allegedly held at knifepoint before being gang raped.
Reports suggested that the woman was abused and beaten before being sexually assaulted by the group.
Five men have been detained and a manhunt is underway for a sixth suspect who remains on the loose.
