Man arrested after family member found dead outside home with 'significant burns'

A man has been arrested after a man in his 60s was found dead outside a burning house.

Emergency services were called to Wargon Crescent in Glenmore Park shortly before 1am on Thursday following reports of a fire. Upon arrival the body of a man in his 60s, suffering from ‘significant burns’ was located outside the partially alight home.

At a press conference police confirmed the 36-year-old man arrested has a criminal history and was ‘well-known’ to police, adding that he and the older man found dead were related. Forensic examination of the deceased would be undertaken to determine the exact cause of death, Nepean Police Area Commander Superintendent Trent King said.

He confirmed there was no history of domestic violence between the two men and went on to add further details about the incident: “There appears to have been an altercation between the two parties there, following a break and enter into the premises โ€” the front door was forced.”

Adding: “An accelerant appears to have been used … however there’s no further information at this stage around what actually occurred within the premises.”

A NSW police statement reads: “A man has been arrested after a body was found at Glenmore Park this morning. Emergency services were called to a home on Wargon Crescent, Glenmore Park, at about 12.50am today (Thursday 16 July 2026), following reports of a fire.

“Officers attached to Nepean Police Area Command attended the scene and located the body of a man in front of a partially alight property. The man, believed to be aged in his 60s, is yet to be formally identified.

“Fire and Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the fire.

“A crime scene has been established, and detectives have commenced an investigation into the circumstances of the incident. Following inquiries, a 36-year-old man was arrested after he was found inside a car on Parkes Avenue, Werrington, about 6.45am today (Thursday 16 July 2026).

“The man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for minor injuries before he was taken to Nepean Hospital under police guard.

“As inquiries continue, anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage is urged to contact Nepean Police Area Command or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”

No charges have yet been made.
