The Palestine Committee of the Jordanian Senate has condemned a visit by Israeli Knesset member Zvi Sukkot to the Dar al-Aytam Islamic Secondary School in the Old City of occupied East Jerusalem, calling for international accountability over the incident.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the committee said Sukkot entered the school, damaged school property, removed a sign displaying a map of historical Palestine and the Palestinian flag, and threw an Islamic education textbook onto the ground.
The committee described the incident as reflecting โthe extremist mentality that governs the Israeli occupation.โ
According to the statement, the committee said the incident was not an isolated act but part of what it described as a broader policy targeting Palestinian educational, religious, and cultural institutions in occupied East Jerusalem.
It argued that such actions seek to undermine Palestinian national identity and historical memory, and said they violate international law, the Geneva Conventions, and relevant United Nations resolutions.
The committee also criticised the reported actions attributed to the chair of the Knesset Education Committee, saying that the destruction of Palestinian symbols, the treatment of an Islamic education textbook, and reported threats to close the school reflected what it described as increasing extremism within Israeli institutions.
The statement called on the international community to take action and hold those responsible accountable.
Israeli authorities had not publicly commented on the Jordanian committeeโs allegations at the time of reporting.
