Tottenham Hotspur stopper Cristian Romero could leave the club in the summer transfer window
Cristian Romero is in talks to leave Tottenham Hotspur, according to reports. The Argentina defender is said to be eyeing a North London departure after five years in the capital.
Fabrizio Romano has claimed that talks have taken place with the 28-year-old’s representatives and Spurs over the possibility of severing ties. The reporter has suggested that Inter Milan are among the clubs interested, as well as Barcelona, but for the Italian giants, the Argentinian’s wage demands and price tag are a stumbling block.
He said: “We need to take a minute to talk Cuti Romero, Cristian Romero, the centre-back from Tottenham Hotspur. I’ve been telling you for some time that the expectation is that Cuti Romero will leave in the summer transfer window.
“The news I can give you now is that Romero’s camp and Tottenham in direct communication that they want to part ways. Romero wants to try something different and Tottenham are ready to let him go, move on and try something different.
“Credit to Tottenham because they have already invested they are not going to enter the market, they signed Van Hecke, Senesi, Van de Ven is untouchable, ‘Van de Ven to Liverpool, Van de Ven to Barcelona’ fake news, he is staying. It is clear that he will leave Tottenham, in the last two or three days, Inter and Tottenham have had a few conversations.
“Inter are considering a move, they like the player, they need two centre backs, Inter are keen, but on the deal, the cost of the deal is difficult. Romero is on a big, big salary, that’s why it’s not easy.
“Don’t forget Barcelona because they are keeping a close eye on the situation. Right now the priority is the striker position, the centre-back is something they could do this summer if a centre-back leaves. The idea for Barcelona is to keep Romero’s name there.”

Romero endured a tough season as Spurs survived relegation from the Premier League on the final day of the season.
The 28-year-old faced criticism throughout the campaign but failed to mince his words during one of the worst performances from Spurs in decades as he took aim at the hierarchy.
Romero took aim at the club for their lack of spending before doubling down on his comments months later. He said: “Great effort from all my teammates yesterday, they were incredible.
“I wanted to be available to help them even though I wasn’t feeling well, especially since we only had 11 players available — unbelievable but true and disgraceful.
“We’ll keep showing up and taking responsibility to turn this around, working hard and staying together.
“All that’s left is to thank all of you for being there and for always supporting us, the fans.”
