The Three Lions started to dream of a place in the final for the first time since 1966 when Anthony Gordon fired them into the lead.ย
But Thomas Tuchel’s substitutions became more and more defensive and the Argentinian onslaught was rampant until they breached Jordan Pickford’s goal and Tuchel’s plan fell apart.
First, Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez scored a stunner from distance and then, with England still reeling, Argentina punished them with the killer blow as Lautaro Martinez, sent on from the bench with the South Americans losing 1-0, at the back post to nod in a famous goal for his nation to book a final on Sunday against Spain.ย
