A gunman who opened fire outside a supermarket with a ‘kind of musket’ has been shot by police in Germany.

Armed police rushed to the incident outside a Netto supermarket in the Friedrichstadt district of Dresden at around 8.20am today, according to local media.

A 41-year-old man was reportedly wielding ‘a kind of musket in his hand’ and shouted a religious phrase before he was shot in an exchange of fire with police.
