The distraught father has been charged with negligence over the death of his three-year-old son after he fell 33 foot from a hotel window in holiday hotspot Cyprus
A British dad has been charged with negligence over the death of his three-year-old son after he plunged from a fourth floor hotel window in Cyprus.
The youngster was reportedly playing with his dad when he fell from the fourth floor hotel corridor window to his death in Chloraka, Paphos.
An ambulance rushed to the scene at around 6.40pm on July 12 however on arrival they found the boy was not responding.
He was taken to Paphos General Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. The 37-year-old father was arrested on Sunday following the tragedy.
The distraught family reportedly also have a five-year-old girl with them on the holiday.
It is reported that they had only arrived on holiday that day, with the incident occurring in front of the boy’s grandfather as they were heading downstairs for dinner.
The dad appeared in front of the Paphos district court on Monday morning, where police requested he be remanded in custody for eight days to facilitate their ongoing investigation.
Local media reports state that the father burst into tears in the court and the session was paused.
Paphos’s Assistant Police Director of Operations, Michalis Nikolaou, confirmed the dad had been accused of causing death due to a reckless or dangerous act.
He is also accused of neglect of duty as head of the family and neglect of responsibility as a person who had the care of another person.
The UK Foreign Office told the Sun: “We are supporting the family of a British child who has died in Cyprus and are in contact with the local authorities.”
