Patrick Mahomes is a fanatical Lionel Messi fan, while wife Brittany is a former college soccer star, so it was no surprise to see the two enjoying Argentina’s World Cup quarterfinal matchup with Switzerland on Saturday in Kansas City.
Whitehouse, Texas’ most famous high-school sweethearts were spotted by Fox Sports cameras taking in the first-half action from a VIP suite at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs quarterback sported a limited-edition adidas Argentina ‘Thrasher’ jersey, while his wife of four years opted against wearing branded gear that might betray her rooting interests.
Of course, American fans weren’t pleased to see Mahomes wearing a foreign jersey.
‘Why is he wearing an Argentina jersey?!?!’ one wrote on X. ‘Is he not American?!?! Does he not know how this works?!?!’
In any case, Patrick did get to see some Messi magic in the first half when the Argentinian legend delivered a corner to teammate Alexis Mac Allister, who scored the game’s opening goal.
It was actually shortly after the goal that Fox cameras caught Patrick seated a row behind Brittany, as she appeared to be enjoying some ice cream.

Switzerland would later score an equalizer in the second half to force the game into extra time.
The Mahomes family co-owns the NWSL’s Kansas City Current, which is currently sixth in the standings, but Brittany’s history with the game goes far deeper. In addition to playing at the University of Texas at Tyler, where she scored 31 goals and added 14 assists across four seasons, she also played professionally for a year in Iceland.
The World Cup date came amid a busy wedding season for the couple, who recently attended former teammate Juju Smith-Schuster’s ceremony with their newly married friends, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. The two couples nearly matched during the outdoor ceremony outside Los Angeles, with the Chiefs teammates sporting black tuxedos while their wives each wore a pink gown.
And of course, a week earlier, it was Swift and Kelce who got married at New York’s Madison Square Garden, where Patrick and Brittany were both on hand.
As revealed in a series of photos Brittany posted on Instagram, Mrs. Mahomes went with a stunning light blue dress and a sparkling silver necklace to the Swift-Kelce wedding, while Patrick donned a slick tuxedo and his customary shades.
