Oman summons Iranian envoy over drone strikes

Oman has summoned Iran’s ambassador in Muscat to protest what it said were Iranian drone strikes on sites in the governorates of Musandam and al-Batinah, according to a statement from the foreign ministry.

The ministry said Ambassador Mousa Fereidoun was handed a formal protest note during a meeting in which Omani officials expressed “dismay at these irresponsible acts”.

The statement called for respect for state sovereignty, good neighbourly relations, non-interference in internal affairs and adherence to the principles that govern ties between the two countries.

Omani authorities said in a statement that 23 members of the GFS Galaxy vessel have been rescued on Sunday, while a search for one missing crew member was ongoing.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps earlier said it struck and stopped a vessel ignoring repeated instructions to use an approved shipping corridor, according to state news agency IRNA.
