The lead play-by-play announcer for the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs has reportedly been fired after he was accused of having an affair with a player’s sister.
Earlier this week, Jacob Tobey’s girlfriend accused him of infidelity in an explosive social media post on his own account in the middle of the night.
The post read: ‘This is my girlfriend of six years. But I cheated on her so feel free to continue following me if you really think I’m a good guy because I’m not. :)’. It also included a picture of them in happier times.
Another post then showed a strip of pictures that appeared to show Tobey and his alleged mistress kissing in a photo booth at a San Antonio bar.
Hours later, the posts had been deleted and Tobey’s accounts are now private.
But, in a post on her own Instagram account, Tobey’s now ex-girlfriend indicated she was behind the inflammatory posts and their relationship is now over.

Tobey has been calling Spurs game since 2024 and has built up an impressive reputation within the sports media industry.
Last year, he earned a spot on Front Office Sports’ list of rising young play-by-play broadcasters.
Before landing the job with the Spurs, Tobey worked for 9News in Denver and called games for both Fox Sports and the Pac-12 Network.
The vacancy with the Spurs is an extremely attractive one, given the team’s recent run to the NBA Finals and core of promising young players, including the superstar Victor Wembanyama.
The Spurs were eventually beaten 4-1 in the NBA Finals by the New York Knicks, who won their first title since 1973.
