Iheanacho, Celtic Discuss New Contract

Celtic manager Martin O’Neill has said the club are pursuing a deal to re-sign Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho, Completesports.com reports.

Iheanacho joined the Hoops on a free transfer last summer after leaving Spanish club Sevilla.

The 29-year-old signed a one-year contract with Celtic, with the club holding an option to extend it by a further year.

The striker played a key role in the Bhoys’ domestic double-winning campaign last season.

Iheanacho Crucial For Celtic

Iheanacho’s late winning goals against Kilmarnock, Dundee, Hibernian and Motherwell earned Celtic 12 crucial points in the Scottish Premiership.

“I’d like to do something with him, (Iheanacho)” O’Neill was quoted by Celtic Way.

“If we can do something relatively quickly, at least he then gets started in pre-season, which is really important for him. It’s something he didn’t have last year.

“So that would be nice. I’m definitely pursuing that at this minute.

“He won’t be in Portugal with us, but we are talking to his agent now at this moment. I would like to have him.”
