Trump breaks silence on stunning England win over Mexico as he gushes over Harry Kane

Donald Trump has spoken out following England’s stunning win over Mexico at the World Cup, pouring praise on one particular player. The US President took to his social media platform Truth Social to compliment Harry Kane, calling him a “GREAT player”.

He wrote: “Harry Kane of England is a GREAT player!!!” The England captain scored a penalty in today’s early morning game at the Azteca in Mexico City, before the team went on to win 3-2.

Jude Bellingham’s two goals in the first half also helped send the team to victory against Mexico, who have only lost at their home stadium three times. The midfielder scored twice in just 89 seconds.

They also managed four clean sheets in four games before this morning’s fixture, and hadn’t conceded in the first half in their last 15 World Cup games.

Raúl Jiménez and Julián Quiñones both scored for the home team, but it wasn’t enough to secure the win, even against 10 men, after Jarell Quansah was sent off in the 54th minute.

He told BBC Sport: “Just not good enough, the referees are just not good enough, the fourth official is just not good enough. We had three people on the VAR from South America, is that right? If this is what I saw, if this is correct…

“VAR overturns, a clear and obvious error for the penalty? For sure not. They didn’t even give a foul, didn’t overturn the yellow to a red. Not good enough, the referee and the fourth official was not good enough.”

The dedicated fans who stayed up until the early hours to catch the game faced an hour delay as kick-off was pushed back to 2am due to extreme weather.
