Manchester United are set to make a move for Aurelien Tchouameni ‘in the coming days’ according to reports in Spain, who claim that Real Madrid are preparing for an imminent approach for their midfielder.
Tchouameni is believed to be United’s ideal target to replace the departed Casemiro in midfield but they have so far not been given the green light to pursue a deal despite months of tracking the Frenchman.
Real Madrid would prefer to keep hold of Tchouameni and fund the signing of another midfielder by selling another player such as Eduardo Camavinga, however the 23-year-old is thought to be resisting any opportunity to leave the club.
Although Madrid confirmed they were not planning a move for Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez this summer, AS report that the La Liga giants are expecting to spend around €100 million if they are to dip into the market for a midfielder.
Consequently, any player sold would need to command a similar amount which has led the club to consider Tchouameni’s sale, even if the preference is to keep hold of the 26-year-old.
United are now said to be making their move, with the club’s directors allegedly ‘prepared to put a lot of money on the table’ to secure Tchouameni’s ‘essential’ signing, with ‘first contact’ over a deal ‘expected’ in the coming days.

Tchouameni has been a key figure for Madrid since his arrival from Monaco for €80m in 2022, although the midfielder has often been used as a makeshift defender during his time at the club.
With two years remaining on his contract, Tchouameni is at a crossroads and, while he has not made any definitive comments over his future, he is believed to be considering his options, having resisted talks over a new deal so far.
United are keen to accelerate the push for a new midfielder after missing out on Mateus Fernandes to rivals Tottenham, and a deal for Atalanta’s Ederson is expected to be completed soon after Brazil’s exit from the 2026 World Cup.
Tchouameni has always been United’s top target and the Red Devils are keen to strike a deal despite knowing that the player would likely become one of the highest earners at the club in a costly move.
