Arsenal have appointed Pascal De Maesschalck from Strasbourg as their new Head of Academy
Arsenal have confirmed the appointment of Pascal De Maesschalck as the club’s new head of the academy following the departure of Per Mertesacker. The German left Arsenal following nearly a decade in the role.
De Maesschalck has been working at Strasbourg as part of the Chelsea owner’s BlueCo multi-club model. The Belgian served as technical director at the club, helping bring through many exciting talents.
He will now translate those skills to North London where Arsenal are hoping to expand and improve their academy success. The club are aiming to bring in and develop the world’s top young talent and De Maesschalck will be the leading figurehead for that strategy.

Sporting Director Andrea Berta told the official Arsenal website: “We are delighted to welcome Pascal to Arsenal. He brings extensive experience from some of Europe’s leading football clubs and has an outstanding track record in youth development.
“We are excited to have him with us as we continue to build for the future, developing young players and identifying the best emerging talent to join Arsenal on a journey towards professional football.”
Arsenal have already brought through the likes of Bukayo Saka, Eddie Nketiah, Emile Smith Rowe, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman under Mertesacker. De Maesschalck will now oversee the next cohort of starlets aiming to take a step forward.
A key role will be replacing the under-21s head coach. Max Porter left the role in June to become part of the Stoke City senior coaching staff as assistant manager.
