US President Donald Trump said Iran is actively seeking a political settlement with Washington ahead of renewed talks between the two sides.
“The Iranian side is eagerly seeking and striving in every way to reach a political settlement with us,” Trump said.
He also claimed the United States had dealt “very harsh blows to Iran” and said Washington had paused military operations for a week “out of our goodwill” to allow funeral ceremonies to take place.
Trump’s remarks come as US and Iranian officials prepare for talks aimed at resolving disputes over the implementation of the memorandum of understanding and broader issues, including security arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz.
