A British boy, 17, has been declared brain dead after a horror fall from a hotel balcony in Athens, Greece. The incident happened at around 5am when the emergency services took the boy to Athens’ Red Cross (Erythros Stavros) Hospital. According to the doctors at the hospital, the boy suffered unsurvivable brain injuries
The exact circumstances surrounding the fall remain under active investigation by local police, reports ekathimerini.com. A 37-year-old kiost employee has been arrested on the charges of fatal endangerment, as well as violations of laws regulating the sale of alcohol and tobacco to minors.
According to police, the employee sold alcohol to the teenager after the minor reportedly presented a fraudulent driver’s license as proof of age.
The 17-year-old was in Greece on holiday with his family. Greek authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
An investigator told The Sun: “It’s too early to say exactly what happened. What we do know is that he fell from the first floor of the hotel and that alcohol had been consumed.”
In another incident reported few datya ago, a 50-year-old British woman suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by a falling rock at the popular Nydri Waterfalls on the island of Lefkada.
The rock reportedly broke loose from the cliffside and hit her on the head, causing severe trauma. Emergency firefighters quickly arrived at the steep and rocky location, rescued her, and carried her to safety on a stretcher.
She was then taken to hospital, where she underwent surgery and was placed on a breathing tube. According to local reports, the holidaymaker remains in critical condition and is expected to be transferred to a specialised trauma centre in Athens for further treatment.
