San Diego Padres pitcher Randy Vasquez fainted on his way to the Dodger Stadium X-ray room after taking a line drive off his right ankle in Thursday’s loss at Chavez Ravine.
Vasquez was promptly taken to the hospital and has since been discharged.
‘That’s great news in what could have been a really scary situation and definitely caught everybody off-guard,’ Padres manager Craig Stammen said on MLB Network Radio. ‘But glad Randy’s doing well, and X-rays were negative and all the tests came back pretty clean.’
Vasquez initially stayed in the game after taking a Mookie Betts liner off his ankle. He managed to complete three innings of work, allowing four runs along the way, before being removed at just 50 pitches for the day.
It was after he was pulled that Vasquez reportedly fainted, falling into the arms of a trainer who was taking him in for an X-ray. The moment was not captured by cameras on Thursday night.

It’s unclear when he’ll be back on the mound. So far this season, Vasquez has struggled nearly as much as the 43-43 Padres.
After posting a respectable 3.84 ERA last year, that figure ballooned to 4.17 this year, but a closer look at the numbers reveals some optimistic signs. Vasquez’s walk rate has dropped to a career-best 7.3 percent this season, while his strikeout rate has jumped to 16.3 percent – his best since his rookie year with the Yankees in 2023.
The problem for Vasquez has been surrendering contact as opponents’ batting average against the 27-year-old Dominican has spiked to .296.
The Padres have now dropped their last six games and have been outscored by 41 runs on the season.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers are 57-31 after Thursday’s 12-7 win.
