Araujo battle heats up
Man Utd are firmly in the race to sign Sporting CP wing-back Maxi Araujo, according to Record.
The Uruguay international was one of the rare positives of what was otherwise a dire World Cup campaign for his country, continuing his trend of showing up on the biggest stage after an impressive 2024 Copa America.
That tournament earned him his move to Sporting, and the World Cup could now have a similar impact, with Chelsea and Man Utd battling it out for the €70 million-rated left-sided player.
Obi in Bundesliga talks
Man Utd wonderkid Chido Obi is in talks over a loan to Bundesliga club Koln, Football Insider claims.
The 18-year-old was handed his senior debut by Ruben Amorim two seasons ago after joining from Arsenal, but he did not make a first-team appearance in 2025/26.
Man Utd now feel that a loan move would be best for his development and are prepared to send him to a European top division. Obi fielded strong interest from various Bundesliga clubs when he left Arsenal, and he could now be on his way to Cologne.
Improved Fernandes offer
Man Utd have informed West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes that they are prepared to improve their contract offer for him, as per Matteo Moretto.
The Red Devils were long seen as the favourites to sign the Portugal international, but Tottenham have now blown the race wide open as they are said to be prepared to pay up to €100m for Fernandes.
In response, Man Utd have now held fresh talks with the 21-year-old, and they want to offer him better terms to get him to snub Spurs. They will also hold “direct talks” with West Ham in a bid to thrash out a deal.
Ugarte sale off?
Manuel Ugarte’s future has been plunged into doubt after he suffered what appeared to be a serious injury at the World Cup.
The Man Utd midfielder had to be stretchered off the pitch in Uruguay’s 1-0 loss to Spain after seemingly getting caught in the turf and overextending his knee.
If the injury is as serious as feared, it would almost certainly mean that Ugarte will stay at Man Utd this summer after initially being one of the prime candidates to be sold in order to fund Michael Carrick’s midfield rebuild.
