Spurs pull off Tonali coup

After beating Man Utd to the signing of Mateus Fernandes, Tottenham have also agreed a deal to sign Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali, as per David Ornstein.

Spurs made an improved offer and ultimately received the green light to sign the midfielder for a whopping €117m package. Personal terms have also been agreed with the player.

The Italy international was also a target for Man Utd. However, similar to Mateus Fernandes, who will set Spurs back €98m, the Red Devils deemed the finances involved in signing Tonali excessive.

Midfield plan changes

Missing out on Fernandes has forced Man Utd to draw up a fresh transfer plan for their midfield.

They still have numerous other options on their shortlist, but they are determined not to overpay. As a result, a deal for “dream target” Aurelien Tchouameni is currently deemed unlikely, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Alex Scott is another key target, but Bournemouth do not want to sell. Any deal for the England starlet would cost more than €80m. Man Utd may therefore have to wait until later in the window before they can bring in their second midfielder after Ederson.

Rashford latest

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the situation of Marcus Rashford, reiterating that there is a concrete possibility of him staying put this summer.

The England winger is now formally a Man Utd player again after the conclusion of his Barcelona loan on 30 June. He is currently at the World Cup but will return to Carrington after the tournament. Contrary to what was previously thought, he may not get sold this summer.

“Marcus Rashford is now showing positive messages to Man Utd about the possibility of staying at the club,” Romano revealed. “The window is still very long – eight weeks – so we can’t guarantee that Rashford is 100% staying at United.

“But Rashford is not closing doors to the possibility of restarting with United, to be part of the preseason under Michael Carrick. So Rashford is open, and that’s a very good message.”

Rashford influences Summerville plans

Rashford’s uncertain future could negatively impact Man Utd’s search for a new left-winger.

The Red Devils will only bring in a new player for that position should the England star depart this summer. Given that they are unlikely to sell Manuel Ugarte after his injury, they will not spend money on a winger unless they absolutely have to.

West Ham star Crysencio Summerville has emerged as a leading target for Man Utd, Sky Sports understands, but whether this deal materialises will ultimately hinge on Rashford.
