Under fire New York Mets owner Steve Cohen has made the remarkable move of confirming that there was a feud between $765million star Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor last season.
The Mets brought Soto to Queens in 2024 by offering him the largest contract in the history of sports after he left city rivals New York Yankees to enter free agency. But after lighting it up in the Bronx and reaching the World Series, his time with the Mets has so far been a disaster.
They have one of the worst records in baseball so far in 2026 and recently fired manager Carlos Mendoza with the team toiling on a 34-47 record. And last year, while things weren’t as bad as they are now, they failed to make the playoffs after breaking the bank to land Soto.
Now, it has become a little bit clearer as to why after Cohen’s extraordinary comments to the New York Post.
‘Frankly, I think that’s a story that was last year’s story,’ Cohen said about the long-rumored tension among fans between Soto and Lindor.
‘I am told and believe strongly that these guys are getting along much better. And so, I just don’t see that as an issue anymore.’

He also quashed any talk of either leaving the team. Soto still has 13 years to go on the astonishing 15-year deal that he inked while Lindor has another six left on his 10-year contract.
‘I don’t see them going anywhere,’ he said. ‘I’m lucky enough to have two high-quality players like that and with the elimination of whatever issues there were last year, I’m thrilled that they’re on the team.’
There had, however, been speculation that Lindor could have been moved on during the most recent offseason.
The comments from Cohen are striking though given the team’s struggles this year. His hope for the future lies in Soto and Lindor not just being friends again, but getting out onto the field together more often.
Lindor has only recently returned due to a calf issue that sidelined him for two months of the season.
Soto has had a brilliant individual campaign so far with the Mets with a .971 OPS and 17 home runs to his name.
