Newcastle ‘fear’ that they could lose their captain Bruno Guimaraes to Arsenal after the player’s representatives were pictured alongside a super agent with strong links to the Gunners.
Guimaraes was the subject of a verbal bid from Arsenal last week that was just shy of £45 million (€52m) that was rejected by the Magpies but Mikel Arteta’s side are believed to be preparing a second approach for the 28-year-old.
Interest has emerged in Guimaraes after the Brazilian’s performances at the 2026 World Cup so far, with only one player having more assists than the Newcastle man’s four so far in North America.
Guimaraes has two years remaining on his contract at St James’ Park and, while he has not asked Newcastle to leave, the midfielder is considering his options after seeing the Magpies fail to qualify for European football last season.
And talks of a move have only been fuelled by Guimaraes’ representative, Alexis Malavolta, posting a picture on social media alongside ‘super agents’ Giuliano Bertolucci and Kia Joorabchian.
The Chronicle report that Newcastle are ‘braced’ for another approach from Arsenal despite telling the North London side that their skipper was not for sale, with the Gunners said to believe that an offer of £65m (€75.5m) could be enough to seal a deal.
Arsenal ready to take advantage of agent links to make Guimaraes move
Guimaraes has been a standout performer for Newcastle since joining them for €42m in 2021 and his reputation has only grown after his impressive displays for Brazil this summer.
Newcastle are desperate to keep hold of Guimaraes, particularly after selling Anthony Gordon this summer and with Sandro Tonali looking increasingly likely to leave for around €100m.
The Magpies are ready to offer their captain a new, long-term contract on improved terms but Guimaraes’ ‘head has been turned’ by the Arsenal approach, according to The Chronicle.

Guimaraes’ agent Malavolta works for Bertolucci’s agency, who have previously set up the deals that saw Gabriel and David Luiz move to Arsenal.
Joorabchian, meanwhile, has had a long history with Arsenal and is known to support the club, having also been heavily involved in their transfer business under previous sporting director Edu Gaspar.
Arsenal have held a long-standing interest in Guimaraes since before he joined Newcastle and they appear to have reason to believe that a deal for him is possible despite the Geordies’ being reluctant to open negotiations.
There is not believed to be a release clause in Guimaraes’ contract but talks will likely be held between the player and club upon his return to Newcastle after the World Cup, with his future set to drag on and leave the Magpies facing uncertainty throughout the summer.
