Accra floods: Heavy rains on Monday morning spark chaos in Ghana

Severe flooding has hit Accra, Ghana, as a huge fire also erupts at Odorna market in the country’s capital. Flooding hit the Okponglo and Shiashie areas of the city after this morning’s heavy downpour.

The National Disaster Management Organisation is leading the emergency response efforts after flooding hit the country. The areas affected include Accra, Tema, and Kasoa. There are reports of residents and commuters were left stranded after today’s rain.

The Ministry of Interior shared the following message: “As a precautionary public safety measure, members of the public are advised to remain where they are until conditions improve.

“Those who are safely at home are urged to stay at home, while those who are at their workplaces or other safe locations should remain there until it is safe to travel. Unnecessary movement should be avoided.”
