Former Super Eagles assistant coach Salisu Yusuf has officially parted ways with Benin Republic side Coton Sport FC by mutual consent, bringing an end to a productive spell with the club.

The experienced Nigerian tactician is now set for a return to Nigeria after overseeing an impressive 2025/26 campaign in the Beninese top flight.
Sports247 gathered that Under Yusuf’s guidance, Coton Sport enjoyed one of their best seasons in recent years, finishing second in Ligue 1 with 62 points.
The club also emerged as the second-highest scoring side in the league, highlighting the attacking philosophy and tactical discipline instilled by the former Nigeria U-23 and Home-Based Eagles coach.
The runners-up finish secured a coveted place in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup, ensuring that Coton Sport will represent Benin on the continental stage despite the departure of their Nigerian manager.
Yusuf’s exit comes as a surprise given the success he achieved during the campaign. However, both parties have reportedly agreed to end the partnership amicably, with the coach now expected to explore new opportunities back home in Nigeria.
The former Enyimba and Kano Pillars coach remains one of the most respected tacticians in Nigerian football, having enjoyed a distinguished coaching career both domestically and internationally.
His vast experience includes several stints with Nigeria’s national teams, where he served as assistant coach of the Super Eagles and also managed the country’s U-23 and home-based teams.
His achievements with Coton Sport have once again demonstrated his ability to build competitive teams and deliver results in different football environments.
