Enzo Fernandez and Malo Gusto made more than 100 appearances for Chelsea between them during the 2025/26 season, but it’s a real possibility both players could be sold this summer.
The Argentina midfielder informed the club last month that he wants to leave, with Real Madrid showing strong interest. Jose Mourinho has made the 25-year-old his top midfield target at Los Blancos, it’s understood, although Madrid are yet to directly contact the Blues over a move. Chelsea value the former Benfica man at £120million and would only consider selling him if an offer in and around that figure arrives their way before the end of the transfer window.
There is also interest from elsewhere in Gusto. Enzo Maresca is understood to be keen on a reunion with the France international when he takes over at Manchester City, with sources insisting the west Londoners are not actively looking to sell the 23-year-old right back but would consider an offer if it was around the £75million-mark.

If you had asked me a month ago, I would have been more than happy with Chelsea keeping both Gusto and Fernandez. Things, however, can change so quickly in football – especially when it comes to the transfer window.
The signing of Marco Palestra, who can play right back among other positions in defence, means Gusto is not needed as much anymore. With that said, if Gusto wants to leave (there are reports claiming he is considering his options) and Chelsea are to get the right price for the France international, then it could be a good time for the two parties to go their separate ways this summer.
As for Fernandez, I have a similar outlook. Fernandez has informed the Blues of his desire to leave. Real Madrid are interested in the Argentine midfielder and he will be allowed to leave for the right price – with Chelsea quoting Los Blancos a whopping £120m.
The quicker Fernandez’s future is sorted – one way or the other – the better for all parties. Xabi Alonso won’t want an unsettled player in his camp to potentially impact the squad’s morale in pre-season as he prepares for his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge. Equally, Chelsea will want to spend the money they get for him with as much time as possible of the transfer window remaining.

Chelsea should sell Enzo Fernandez and Malo Gusto this summer. The Blues need a culture reset in the dressing room, and although they would likely be key players for Xabi Alonso, they don’t seem committed or entirely invested in the project at Stamford Bridge.
In some respects, I don’t blame them. They have each been at Chelsea for a few years now, and BlueCo have hardly given them a good reason to stay; whether they’re to blame or not, they scared away the only manager that actually showed promise, took a step in the right direction and made some progress.
I think the failure to qualify for the Champions League was just the cherry on top, even though Fernandez and Gusto were partially to blame! With that being said, the sporting leadership team appear to have learned from their mistakes.
Chelsea have appointed a top manager whom they’re prepared to back, so there’s a lot to look forward to. They’ll probably make a profit on the potential sales of Fernandez and Gusto, too, giving Xabi Alonso the funds to sign cherry-pick players who want to be at the club and will improve the starting lineup.

I firmly believe Chelsea should sell Enzo Fernandez and Malo Gusto this summer. The Argentina international had a very good season at Stamford Bridge and was actually one of the better performers, but he’s made his intentions of wanting to leave crystal clear.
Under Xabi Alonso, Chelsea need to build a squad who want to fight for each other and really be at the club. Fernandez, who captained the side when Reece James was absent, can no longer offer that and if he stays after everything he has said, it sends out the wrong message.
Gusto is another who I would let go, for the right fee. I don’t see the defender as a first choice full-back and his attitude, in my opinion, is questionable on occasions. The Frenchman arrived at the club in 2023 for £30million so any deal is likely to generate a healthy profit.
