Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn could be set for a surprise summer move to Manchester United.
Released by Nottingham Forest following the conclusion of the 2025/26 season, Gunn has started all three of Scotland’s games at this summer’s World Cup.

The Scots suffered a damaging 3-0 defeat to Brazil on Wednesday, which could have put a serious dent in their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages.
It leaves Steve Clarke’s side hoping that four other third-place teams finish with an inferior tally than their three points and minus-three goal difference.
But as Gunn faces an early World Cup exit, Old Trafford has emerged as a potential next destination for the 30-year-old.
All change in the Old Trafford goalkeeping department?
With Man United looking to offload Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir – having seen Senne Lammens firmly cement himself as number one between the sticks last term – Gunn would bring useful experience as goalkeeping back-up.
While he only made one appearance in his sole campaign at Forest, the son of former Scotland ‘keeper Bryan Gunn has more than 200 professional games under his belt.
The majority of those came during a four-year spell at his dad’s old club, Norwich City – having made his Premier League debut for Southampton in 2019.
After representing England up to U21 level, Gunn opted to follow in the footsteps of his Scottish father in senior international level.
He made his Scotland debut in 2024 and has gone on to earn 25 caps, the most recent coming in Wednesday night’s 3-0 defeat to Brazil – a result which leaves the Scots on the brink of World Cup elimination at the group stage.
Born in Norwich, Gunn started out at Manchester City – during which time current United director of football Jason Wilcox was heavily involved.
Despite never making a senior appearance for Man City, Gunn could join a select group of players to have been at both clubs.

And he wouldn’t be the first ‘keeper to do so: United legend Peter Schmeichel ended his career with City.
As well as Gunn, The Sun reports that United have been keeping tabs on Leeds and Wales shot-stopper Karl Darlow.
Aside from the possibly departing Onana and Bayindir, the 13-time Premier League champions also have 40-year-old Tom Heaton on their books.
The United academy graduate returned to the club in 2021 and recently signed a one-year contract extension to keep him there until next summer.
United looking ahead to next season
Michael Carrick’s United have yet to make any signings ahead of the 2026/27 season, though they are expected to complete a deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, Rasmus Hojlund – who United signed from Atalanta three years ago – has made his loan spell at Napoli permanent.
Carrick and co. will begin the new Premier League campaign away to newly promoted Hull City on August 22.
Their first home fixture also comes against a promoted side in the form of Ipswich Town a week later.
