The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has invited 29 athletes to the National Sports Commission (NSC) Commonwealth Games camp in Abuja as preparations intensify for the 2026 Commonwealth Games scheduled to hold in Glasgow, Scotland, in July.
The list comprises 14 male and 15 female athletes selected from performances at the recently concluded AFN Commonwealth Games Trials held at the Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) Sports Complex in Lagos, as well as athletes whose current performances earned them consideration despite missing the trials due to visa-related challenges.

AFN Secretary-General, Israel Inwang, directed all invited athletes to report to the NSC National Commonwealth Games camp in Abuja from Thursday, June 25, 2026, for the commencement of intensive training ahead of the Games.
Nigeria’s athletics contingent is expected to compete in 18 events across track and field, including the men’s 4x100m relay, women’s 4x100m relay and the mixed 4x400m relay.
Leading the list of invited athletes are reigning world record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, Africa’s fastest man Kanyinsola Ajayi, sprint sensation Favour Ashe, quarter-miler Samuel Ogazi, and shot put star Chukwuebuka Enekwechi.
Also invited are long jump specialist Ese Brume, high jumper Temitope Adeshina, hammer thrower Oyesade Olatoye, and experienced quarter-miler Patience Okon-George.
AFN President, Chief Tonobok Okowa, expressed optimism over the camping programme and wished the athletes, coaches and officials a successful and hitch-free preparation period as Nigeria targets a strong outing in Glasgow.

Sprints (100m, 200m, 4x100m Relay): Kanyinsola Ajayi, Alaba Akintola, Favour Ashe, Chidera Ezeakor, Adekalu Fakorede, Israel Okon and Udodi Onwuzurike.
400m / Mixed 4x400m Relay: Samuel Ogazi, Edidiong Udo, Tyler Johnson and Ezekiel Nathaniel (400m hurdles).
Field Events:
Chukwuebuka Enekwechi (Shot Put), Chinecherem Nnamdi (Javelin) and Jami Schluter (Decathlon).
Women
Sprints (100m, 200m, 4x100m Relay): Blessing Ogundiran, Rosemary Chukwuma, Tima Godbless, Miracle Ezechukwu, Olayinka Olajide and Obi Chukwuka.
100m Hurdles: Tobi Amusan.
400m / Mixed 4x400m Relay: Patience Okon-George, Ella Onojuvwevwo, Favour Onyah and Esther Joseph.
Field Events: Temitope Adeshina (High Jump), Ese Brume (Long Jump), Jessica Oji (Shot Put) and Oyesade Olatoye (Hammer Throw).
