President of the African Table Tennis Federation, Waheed Enitan Oshodi, has admitted that African table tennis still has significant work to do in order to consistently produce world-class players.
Speaking on the development of the sport across the continent, Oshodi noted that only Omar Assar and Aruna Quadri have successfully broken into the world top 20 from Africa in recent years.

“We still have a lot of work to do in African table tennis,” Oshodi said.
According to the ATTF president, global rankings depend heavily on regular participation in elite international competitions.
“You must compete consistently at top tournaments to improve rankings,” he implied.
Oshodi, however, praised the emergence of young talents from countries such as Uganda, Algeria and Morocco.
“There are many promising young players coming through,” he noted.
The sports administrator stressed that the growth of table tennis across Africa remains encouraging despite ongoing financial and developmental challenges.
“The sport is growing steadily across the continent,” he added.
Africa continues producing talented players, but officials believe stronger structures and increased funding are necessary to consistently compete with Europe and Asia.
“The potential in Africa is massive,” many sports observers believe.
Oshodi remains optimistic that the next generation of African players can continue closing the gap globally.
“We must keep developing and investing in the sport,” he stressed.
For the ATTF president, the message is clear.
Africa has the talent.
Development structures still need improvement.
And consistent international exposure remains crucial for global success.
Because world-class athletes are built through competition, investment, and long-term development.
