Sprint sensation Favour Ashe delivered a career-defining performance on Tuesday at the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) Commonwealth Games Trials in Lagos.
Favour Ashe stormed to victory in the men’s 100 metres final with a personal best time of 9.93 seconds to emerge as Nigeria’s fastest man.

The electrifying race saw Ashe edge a highly competitive field to secure the national title, reinforcing his status as one of the country’s leading sprint talents ahead of major international competitions.
Fakorede Adekalu also produced a remarkable performance, clocking a personal best of 9.98 seconds to finish second and claim the silver medal, while Ezeakor Chidera completed the podium with another personal best of 10.03 seconds for bronze.
The men’s 100m final was one of the highlights of the AFN trials, with all three medallists recording lifetime best performances in a race that showcased the depth of Nigerian sprinting.
Earlier in the day, Johnson Tyler claimed the men’s 400m national title after crossing the line in 45.75 seconds.
Achakpoekir Victory finished second in 45.91 seconds, while Emmanuel Ojeli secured bronze with a time of 45.94 seconds.
In the women’s 400m final, veteran quarter-miler Patience Okon-George once again demonstrated her class, winning gold in 51.87 seconds to claim the national title.
Kudoro Taiwo finished second to earn the silver medal.
The performances at the Lagos trials have heightened expectations for Team Nigeria as athletes continue preparations for the upcoming 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
