Lucas Bergvall has reportedly expressed a desire to leave Tottenham Hotspur, which could create an opportunity for the club this summer
Tottenham Hotspur could be presented with an opportunity to sign former target Morgan Gibbs-White after an update on Lucas Bergvall’s future.
The Sweden international’s future has been the subject of speculation in recent weeks, and there has become an increased likelihood that a move away from north London could be on the cards.
Reports emerged on Sunday claiming that Bergvall has expressed a desire to leave Tottenham this summer, with suggestions that clubs in the Premier League and across Europe are already expressing an interest.
There has now been a fresh report in The Athletic that Nottingham Forest have joined the race to sign Bergvall this summer.
The report claims that Bergvall has been identified by Forest as a player the club would look to replace Elliot Anderson, who is looking increasingly likely to complete a move to Manchester City for a fee in excess of £100million.
Bergvall’s contract at Tottenham runs until the summer of 2031, and there have also been claims that Aston Villa may have an interest in the midfielder this summer.
The report follows on from Tottenham’s attempt to sign Gibbs-White from Forest last summer, before the England international went on to remain at the City Ground.
Spurs were close to completing a £60million deal for the playmaker, only for Gibbs-White to sign a new contract to commit his future at Forest until the summer of 2028.
Gibbs-White has two years left to run on his deal at Forest, but will likely have suitors playing in Europe this summer after another steller campaign.

Given that Forest reportedly have an interest in Bergvall, it could present Spurs with an opportunity to revive their interest in Gibbs-White and pursue a potential player-plus-cash deal.
That has not been proposed, but given their past interest and the fact that Gibbs-White will likely demand a higher fee than Bergvall, it can’t be entirely ruled out.
Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi is looking at midfielders, and a swap deal for Gibbs-White might be the most cost-effective option, with some pricey targets under consideration.
Tottenham have already made a busy start to the summer transfer window with several new arrivals moving to north London.
Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi have both signed for Tottenham on free transfers following their departures from Liverpool and Bournemouth, respectively.
Spurs also completed the signing of Jan Paul van Hecke on a permanent deal from Brighton for a fee worth £52million.
There are also reports that Tottenham also have an interest in Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, as well as Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton, as they look to strengthen their midfield options.
