The latest on the future of Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez amid Real Madrid’s interest in the Argentine and his desire to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window
Reports in recent days have claimed Enzo Fernandez and Real Madrid have an agreement in place over personal terms, though there are no noises from Chelsea’s side – at the time of writing – to validify said speculation.
The Blues have set a £120million price tag on Fernandez’s head after the Argentina international informed the club of his desire to leave Stamford Bridge last month. Sources close to Chelsea have told football.london that the club are aware of Real Madrid’s strong interest in the 25-year-old midfielder but are not giving too much away on anything else.
All the speculation and noise over Fernandez’s future in recent days has not come from the west London club. The real obstacle to overcome in the Fernandez ‘saga’ will be the extortionate fee Chelsea demand for his services, with personal terms, sources say, not expected to be an issue.

Fernandez is currently with the Argentina squad at the World Cup as the South Americans look to defend their 2022 crown but the midfielder is said to want his future decided as quickly as possible. While Fernandez prepares for the Argentines’ Group J clash with Austria on Monday, the Chelsea midfielder’s entourage are working behind the scenes to sort his future out.
As for Chelsea and Xabi Alonso, they will have to sit back and watch events unfold. The Blues have already given permission for Fernandez to depart should the right offer come their way and Alonso will already be thinking about how he can get the best out of the players that will definitely be staying ahead of his debut season.
As reported earlier in the week, Chelsea are looking to add two – at the very least – starting-level players to their squad to give Alonso a helping hand in his debut season. A centre-back, central midfielder and left winger have all been earmarked as areas the Blues need to improve as new manager Alonso works alongside the club’s sporting leadership team.
