A British influencer who is at the World Cup has made a video blasting England fans for ‘sexualising’ his fiancée in the United States.
Ellis Platten, 28, has blown up in popularity in recent months, with his ‘Away Days’ YouTube channel accumulating nearly 650,000 subscribers in the build-up to the tournament.
He has jetted out to the States alongside channel co-stars Ben Gibbs and Alfie Indra, as well as fiancée Rose Ruland, 27, who he became engaged to late last year.
They visited the Dallas Stadium on Tuesday night for England’s opening match against Croatia, but the couple didn’t have the best experience, as detailed in a new TikTok made by Ellis.
‘I wasn’t gonna make a video about this but I think – it is insane,’ he began in the clip. ‘I went to the England game, took my fiancée, and it was insane. We went to different parts of the stadium, and, within 10 seconds of leaving her, she was catcalled by men. Like, there was like a group of men shouting at her that they wanted her, and walked into a wall because they were so fixated on giving her abuse and just sexualising her in general.
‘And then after the game, bear in mind we’ve just won our World Cup opener, it’s good vibes. Team have played really well, everyone’s great. I have my arm around her, because that’s how couples walk. Normal thing to do.

‘Then another different group of lads (started) hurling abuse at us for, I’d say, 10–15 minutes as we’re walking, making us feel so uncomfortable about the fact that we were there. And I’m just like, why do blokes – and it is a men issue… it was a core experience for me seeing how different the experience of going to a game is as a woman compared to a man. Because you can be there just to have fun and watch a World Cup game, and still get sexualised just for existing. She was sexualised without me, she was then sexualised with me.’
Rose, who is American, is an influencer in her own right, racking up more than 120,000 followers on Instagram, nearly 50,000 subscribers on YouTube, and almost 175,000 followers on TikTok.
The couple started dating in late 2024 and, in November last year, became engaged.
Rose had shared her excitement to go to the England game on social media, writing: ‘First World Cup game! Actually can’t believe this is my life!! Thank you so much for supporting me and pushing me whether you’ve been here from the start or just today.
‘From Twitch streaming my reaction to the World Cup four years ago to now actually attending it… I have no words. Forever grateful.’
Ellis, though, was less than pleased with what Rose had to go through.
‘Why do you have to try and ruin the enjoyment of other people at a game of football when we’ve just won?’ he continued. ‘Even if we would have lost, obviously it’s not OK, but it’s like even more so like… surely your focus after the game should be you’ve won, let’s celebrate the win. But no, they had to be the worst blokes of all time.
‘And it is a men issue. Like, men in every country just have to sexualise women at an event they are going to. If I went there just as me, I’m not getting any abuse. It was just an infuriating way to have our enjoyment of our first World Cup game together just ruined by the worst blokes and the least intelligent blokes in the world, who also want to protect our women and children.’
Fifteen thousand England fans were in Dallas for the Three Lions’ first game against Croatia
It’s estimated that around 15,000 England fans were in Dallas for the Three Lions’ World Cup opener, which saw them beat Croatia 4-2.
The game itself was the scene of a major security breach after ‘scores’ of ticketless Three Lions fans managed to enter their World Cup opener with Croatia.
Witnesses have told Daily Mail Sport of startling scenes outside Dallas Stadium in which groups of opportunists brazenly ‘strolled’ in, easily swerving ticket and security checks.
‘It was ridiculous,’ explained one travelling fan, who did have a ticket and who brought a replica World Cup for the occasion.
‘There were big gaps at the side of the ticket barriers and people just strolled through. There were volunteers who were basically old ladies and they weren’t stopping anyone.
‘I scanned my ticket because I had one, but nobody checked my flag or my trophy. Loads just walked through while others just jumped over the top. There were huge gaps.’
A huge security operation was put in place for England’s tournament bow at the huge home of the NFL’s Cowboys. Officials said that snipers were in place inside the stadium, with the Arlington Police Department explaining that they had ‘highly trained personnel and specialized resources’ deployed at the venue.
