Manchester United are paying ‘serious attention’ to Crysencio Summerville as a potential left-wing signing this summer after the West Ham star’s impressive start to the 2026 World Cup.

Summerville scored in the Netherlands’ 2-2 draw with Japan on Sunday and The Athletic report that the 24-year-old has become a ‘more appealing’ target for potential clubs after West Ham’s relegation from the Premier League.

One of those teams is understood to be United, with Summerville said to be ranked highly among the options being considered to strengthen at left wing.

United are believed to have enquired about Summerville’s situation and are ‘aware’ that he would cost approximately £50 million (€58m), with the player still tied to West Ham until 2029.

Much will depend on the future of Marcus Rashford, who is set to return to Old Trafford this summer after Barcelona opted against taking up the €30m option to sign him permanently.

Curiously, The Athletic claim that Rashford’s preference would be to see out the remaining two years of his contract with United rather than join another English team, which would significantly harm Michael Carrick’s chances of signing Summerville or another winger this summer.

Crysencio Summerville: Man Utd eye winger as cut-price alternative to big money targets

Summerville has proven to be a mercurial talent since moving to England in 2021, first with Leeds before joining the Hammers in 2024 for €29.3m.

The Dutchman scored five times and provided two assists last season before playing 70 minutes in his country’s opener at the World Cup where he netted an impressive strike from range.

United have a number of targets on their winger shortlist, with players such as Yan Diomande and Bradley Barcola believed to feature higher than Summerville in the club’s thinking.

However, Summerville’s price tag is likely to be more feasible for United, particularly if Rashford remains and with the Red Devils hoping to splash the cash on another midfielder once their expected €45m move for Ederson is completed.

Fellow West Ham star Mateus Fernandes is believed to be the club’s top target in midfield after Ederson, although an asking price of more than €80m has so far proven to be prohibitive.

The signing of a winger is deemed as a lower priority than a midfielder and United will be desperate to cash in on Rashford and get the 28-year-old’s wages off their books.

Rashford has a release clause of £40m (€46m), although United would be open to negotiating for his exit, with a return to Barcelona not being ruled out and still believed to be the player’s ideal destination.
