PSG stars Goncalo Ramos and Nuno Mendes were left shocked by Myles Lewis-Skelly’s omission from Thomas Tuchel’s England World Cup squad. The 19-year-old struggled for game time in the early part of the campaign, but ended the season strongly, starting the final few games of the season, including the Champions League final against PSG.
There had been some suggestions his form in the final few weeks would be enough to secure a place in Thomas Tuchel’s 26-man squad for the tournament, but it wasn’t to be.
Arsenal fans were surprised by the decision, especially given the lack of depth in the left-back position.
Both PSG stars were equally surprised, citing Lewi-Skelly’s versatility as an important quality England could have called upon at the World Cup.
Speaking to Pedro Teixeira Da Mota’s YouTube channel about the England squad, Ramos asked: And so there’s no Lewis-Skelly? Mendes replied: “No, no.”

The PSG forward was surprised and said: No? Look, he’s not there either. No… strange. I thought he got the call-up.
“He’s not in the midfield? Midfielders, look. I was pretty sure he was called up.”
Mendes said: “Ya, he’s not there either.” Ramos said: “No and notice, not only is he not there, in the news of the guys who are out, he’s not there either!
“He was not called up by the newspaper.” Ramos added: “Like he was a starter for the Arsenal games, Premier League champion, and he plays at left back.”
“He is left side, that’s why I said him,” Mendes said. “He plays left back and plays middle. It’s like good to have this versatility.”
Lewis-Skelly was trusted by Arteta to start in midfield in the biggest game of the season and Arteta admitted he’d been a little tough on the youngster not paying him in his natural position after coming through the academy as a midfielder.
“I’ve been quite tough on him,” Arteta said. “He’s been very persistent and consistent in his behaviours and the manner that he’s been knocking on the door constantly to earn the right to play.
“He deserved it and that’s why he played.”
