Former Super Eagles forward Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo, popularly known as Simy, will make an emotional homecoming to Nkpor-Agu in Idemili North L.G.A of Anambra State on 21 June 2026 to celebrate a remarkable season with Saudi second-tier league side, Al-Orobah and reconnect with the community that shaped his journey.
Simy netted 27 league goals and four assists in 27 games to help Al-Orobah finish fifth in the regular season. The Sakakah-based club missed out on promotion back to the Saudi Pro-League after losing 2‐1 to Al-Ula in the Semi-final of the Saudi First Division Play-off. He scored the Al-Orobah goal in the Play-off loss.
Tagged ‘The Homecoming’, the event will feature a Thanksgiving Mass and a novelty football match as Simy gives thanks to God for his successful career journey while looking forward to even greater achievements in the years ahead.
Thanksgiving Service, Novelty Match Feature In Simy Nwankwo’s ‘The Homecoming’ Celebration
The one-day event will commence with an 8:30 a.m. Thanksgiving Mass at Holy Cross Parish, Nkpor-Agu, before culminating in an all-star novelty match at the United Primary School football field at 4 p.m.

Some of the stars expected to participate in the all-star game include former Nigerian internationals Uche Nwofor and Ogenyi Onazi, as well as Chukwubuikem Ikwuemesi of Belgian club Oud-Heverlee Leuven, David Nworah of Saudi Arabian side Al-Sinaa SC, and Francis Ezeh of Turkish First Division club Ankara Keçiörengücü, among others.
From Nkpor-Agu To International Football Stardom
Simy began his football career in Nkpor-Agu before moving abroad to play for Portuguese clubs Portimonense and Gil Vicente. He later featured for Italian sides Crotone, Salernitana, Parma and Benevento, and currently plies his trade in Saudi Arabia.
The Nanka-born striker, who stands at 6ft 6in, enjoyed an outstanding campaign in the recently concluded Saudi First Division League with Al-Orobah, finishing as the joint-top scorer with 28 goals.

His career has been defined by significant individual milestones, including becoming the first African player to finish as the leading scorer in an Italian professional league after netting 20 goals for Crotone during the 2019/20 Serie B season.

As a member of Nigeria’s squad at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Simy featured in matches against Croatia and Argentina before the Super Eagles exited the competition in the group stage.
