There are set to be changes galore at the north London club this summer and that could mean some players finding they need to move on
Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd believes his old club will try to swoop for Tottenham youngster Mikey Moore this summer either on loan or a permanent deal.
The 18-year-old overcame a tough start on loan at Rangers, with the Glaswegian side’s fans initially unconvinced about him before he became their darling and picked up the PFA Scotland Premiership Young Player of the Year and Rangers’ Young Player of the Year awards.
Moore played 47 matches for the Glasgow giants across the season, with 11 goal involvements as Danny Rohl helped unlock him more often in a left-sided playmaker role after Russell Martin’s dismal early months of the campaign.
The teenager is highly thought at Tottenham after coming through the academy, but with Roberto De Zerbi backing a big money move for Manchester City winger Savinho this summer, there may not be much game time on offer for Moore unless he heads out of the club again as Spurs have fewer fixtures with no European football.
football.london have previously reported that the youngster has a queue of clubs from home and abroad keen to sign him if De Zerbi decides he can head out this summer.
Former Scotland international Boyd believes Moore became such a part of things at Rangers that they will make another move for him this summer.
“As a young player, I don’t think many people were expecting too much of Mikey Moore at Rangers this year, but as the season went on, he grew into it and integrated himself well into the club,” he said.
“In a season where Rangers performed well-below expectations in terms of winning silverware, Moore is one of the few players to have emerged from the season with some credit. It’s not easy to join a club as big as Rangers and perform in your first season, so I think he’s done very well.”
The 42-year-old added: “Reading between the lines, I think Rangers will try and keep him for longer – whether that’s another loan or permanent deal, I’m not sure.
“With Roberto De Zerbi now at the helm of Spurs, there may be an overhaul in the summer transfer window, which could include some big signings in forward positions. That could harm Moore’s minutes in the first team. I’m certain he would’ve had an impact at Spurs this season if he remained in North London; they were crying out for someone who could pick up the ball and take on the opposition.
“De Zerbi is going to be backed in the summer; it’s why he agreed to take on the job, so you’d imagine the poor output will be addressed in the form of new signings who can have an immediate impact.”
