NBA star, 59, who won three titles with Michael Jordan and the Bulls died after a 'fall at his home', report claims

A colleague of late NBA star Stacey King appears to have revealed the cause of his sudden passing at the age of 59.

The news of the death of King, the three-time NBA champion and Chicago Bulls broadcaster, stunned the sports world on Sunday.

Now, ESPN Chicago’s David Kaplan seems to have reported that King died after a fall at his home in the suburb of River Forest.

‘Absolutely devastated to hear that Stacey King has passed away at the age of 59 after a fall at his home,’ Kaplan posted to X.

‘He made watching the Bulls, no matter good season or bad so much fun. God bless you, my friend. RIP.’ 

Kaplan’s words are not an official designation, as ABC Chicago reports a head autopsy is needed to confirm the cause of King’s death.

Kaplan isn’t the only one who shared fond memories of King after his tragic passing.

‘Not too long ago, I talked to him, and we had made plans for the summer. We were gonna go have shrimp and just have a good summer,’ his friend Ike White told ABC Chicago. 

‘Then, this morning, I was driving, and his son called and told me that Stacey had passed. And that was totally unexpected. Friends 30 years, and just like that, unexpected. It’s shocking. I’m hurting… Just to see his son crying like that, and there’s nothing you can do.’

King was drafted by the Bulls in 1989 and won three-straight titles alongside Michael Jordan from 1991-1993. He played for the team until 1994 and last suited up in the NBA in 1997.

Following a brief coaching stint, he joined the Bulls’ broadcast team as a color commentator in 2006 and remained in that role until his death.

‘Stacey King was a cherished member of the Bulls family and one of the truly unique personalities in our organization’s history,’ team owner Jerry Reinsdorf said in a statement. 

‘His connection to Chicago, the Bulls and our fans spanned more than three decades — first as a player and later as the unmistakable voice that helped bring Bulls basketball into the homes of generations of fans… We will miss him deeply and remember the joy, energy, humor, candor and passion that he brought to our organization, our broadcasts, and our fans every day.’
